New Home Keepsake Idea

Myself and my boyfriend, Matt, moved out of our family homes over a year ago and when we did we were gifted with many new home cards. I've kept hold of them all, because I'm basically a hoarder, as I wanted to try and do something creative with them so that we'd be able to and display them. I came up with the idea of making a collage, almost like a patchwork quilt, that we could put up in a frame on our photo wall. 

Last weekend, when I finally had the motivation, I decided to start my little project and get it up on the wall.

To create this I basically looked at each card and identified the most interesting parts. Using the edge of another card, whilst resting on a wooden chopping board, I scored a few squares into the front of each card with the scissors. I did this rather than cutting to give it a sharper edge. From the cards, I also picked the key people we wanted to feature and cut their names out, as you can see on the picture above. Some of the people named in the cards are no longer with us so I just thought it would be nice to have them highlighted on here.

Then when all the squares were cut out I set to organising them on a piece of A4 card and sticking them down with a glue stick. I am really pleased with the end result as it just brings together all the designs from each card and displays some of the most important people in our lives.

Plewsy Studio Open Day

Following my review of Plewsy greetings cards a few weeks ago, I was invited to an open day that Fiona held to launch her new collection of products. This was held at her gorgeous house in Northallerton proving to be quite the drive through the countryside. I picked up Louise and off we went to see her new designs.

I absolutely love Fiona's designs, she is amazing at using inks to produce the cutest of characters. She had a wall full of different cards she had designed for occasions such as Christmas, the birth of a new baby and birthdays. I wanted to pick them all but settled for the two in the above picture - the fox saying "let's party!" and the print "in a while crocodile". Me and my boyfriend are planning to have a photo wall going up the stairs in our house and I thought these two would look perfect framed!

Fiona also has a line of bespoke wedding stationery that involves loosely illustrating portraits of the bride and groom to invite people to their special day. It all looks absolutely adorable and I'd love this if I was getting married!

There are also some enlarged prints on sale of some of the smaller illustrations as well as something unique created for the Tour de France.

Plewsy Cards

Finding cute gift cards in supermarkets is really tough so I've been turning to Etsy to find something more personal and home made. Someone who has taken to creating these cards is Fiona Plews of Plewsy. Fiona gained a first in a degree in graphic design before undertaking 18 months of experience in the industry. Now she has decided to go it alone and start a new adventure, Plewsy.

At present she is creating cards and prints that are being sold on her Etsy shop, and she sent me a couple to review!

This cards are of the highest quality, printed onto recycled paper stock. The prints on each of these cards are absolutely adorable, my favourites are the colourful fairy lights and the sausage dog in his little jumper. Inside the cards is blank so you could use these however you wanted. Possibly using the socks to welcome someone into their new house, the fairy lights for Christmas, the dog with a party hat on to celebrate a birthday and the sausage dog to say thank you.

I'm really in love with the look and feel of these cards as they seem like they've just been drawn, extremely personal and so versatile.
