As the name suggests they sell pie and mash, many types of pies with mash, peas and gravy. As it was a bank holiday they were rushed off their feet and we just managed to get in before the place was full up. It is such a cute little place with many small tables adorned with chequered covers and the sound of 1940's tunes in the background.
I picked corned beef and potato and Mum picked steak and stout. It didn't take long for them to be brought to our table with a good portion of real mashed potato, peas and gravy. The pie was delicious, full of lots of corned beef and chunks of potato. Although there were many people coming in to look for a table we weren't rushed and we had as much time as wanted to enjoy our food. The staff were brilliant, really friendly and coped well with the number of people they had to serve. I'd definitely recommend and would certainly visit again when we are in Whitby in favour of fish and chips.
Have you been? What did you think? Would you go?
Ahh you can't beat a piece of pie! This place sounds right up my street. Real comfort food with no pretentiousness! I'm visiting N. Yorks next February and we're staying not far from Whitby so if we head into the town we may have to stop off here! Do you have any other recommendations for Whitby? Xxx
