The ferry itself was very pleasant to be on. There was three shops, three bars, two restaurants, two cinema screens and even a Costa Coffee. We had paid for our meals before we arrived so we got to enjoy the vast buffet they provided. The first night there was Indian food and the curries were gorgeous. After a nights sleep on the ferry we arrived in Rotterdam, the largest European port.
We took an hour trip by bus to Amsterdam and first attempted to go to the Anne Frank museum, unfortunately it was too busy so we charged on. We wandered around looking at the gorgeous canals and enjoying the gorgeous sunny day we had.
Eventually, we decided it might be nice to see Amsterdam by canal and learn a bit about the area so we jumped on a canal boat tour which certainly gave us a different perspective.
After rushing around to find Urban Outfitters before we had to get on the bus we suddenly discovered so many amazing shops we had missed. It definitely warrants another trip back. As we had some Euros left when we got back on the ferry we decided to upgrade to a side room with a window which was for 5 people. It was definitely a lot bigger than the first room we had!
I had a lovely day in Amsterdam and would definitely recommend the ferry for anyone wanting a relatively cheap time away. When in Holland you must: get a picture in oversized clogs, gorge on sweets and treats and try the local food (above is a picture of a kroket, they are lush!).
Thanks for a lovely trip down memory lane, Danni! I lived in Amsterdam for a year and loved the city. (It's where I developed my frites & mayo habit and love of wandering around looking at pretty buildings!) Glad you liked the 'Dam!
ReplyDeleteAw wow!! That is amazing :) Glad you liked the pictures! x
DeleteI love the Hull Ferries! Went to Bruges the last couple of times (which I highly recommend if you are ever after another trip away!) but Amsterdam is next on the list!
ReplyDeleteThey are so great aren't they! Ooh I need to visit Bruges! x
DeleteLooks like such a gorgeous day, you have some lovely pictures! :)
ReplyDeleteYes it was so lovely :) x
DeleteI went to Amsterdam for a long weekend with a friend in 2011 and really loved it. I'd definitely go back, especially because I REALLY wanted to see the tulips but we were ever so slightly too late and they'd all gone :( I also quite like the idea of riding a bike round Holland as well, it's so bike friendly!
ReplyDeleteWe did make it to Anne Frank, it was a great experience but at the same time way too many tourists! It's hard to get a real feel for what it must have been like when you are walking around in a massive group of tourists. It does get too crowded in there.
So glad you had a great time x
Aw sounds really good! Wish I'd got to go to the Anne Frank Museum! :(

Amsterdam is such a lovely city! If you go back again, I would definitely recommend hiring a bike and just riding around the city seeing what you can find :)
